Shift Happens

Let’s jump into some insecurities of mine real quick. Feeling like I am under-qualified for everything, like I’ll never be good enough, and I don’t deserve good things. Wow, Yeah. At what point do we start telling ourselves these lies? Just because we aren’t the best at something doesn’t mean we aren’t good at it. Everything in life affords us the opportunity to grow, stretch, and become better. The point is to believe in ourselves and keep going. Keep trying.

I am in the middle of working on some life goals that require a lot of growing and stretching for me. I have to believe in myself like I never have before. Mentally, this is exhausting. It’s so easy to knock ourselves down because we see our flaws. We know our failures. I can tell you my weaknesses in a heartbeat yet struggle to think of my strengths. Working through rewiring my brain to think more positively about myself has been the most difficult journey. When you are told you are a burden on loved ones, or that you’re too much, it takes a toll deep down to your core. It settles in and begins to sprout its ugly little lies. If you don’t cut those negative weeds out, soon you’ll have a lovely little depression garden all to yourself. Let’s take a look at a few helpful hints to shift your perspective.

“The fear of not being enough and the fear of being ‘too much’ are exactly the same fear. The fear of being you. ” – Nayyirah Waheed

HELPFUL HINTS:

  1. Acknowledge it’s an uncomfortable feeling. Own it. It’s toxic negative thinking and it doesn’t belong in your head.
  2. Talk to someone about it. Usually your circle can help you see the good in yourself. Just be honest with your feelings. If you don’t have a close group or person you trust, try reaching out to a therapist.
  3.  Journal. Writing it down can help you get it all out and monitor your growth.
  4. DO NOT COMPARE YOUR WALK WITH OTHERS.

It will not happen all at once. Growth is slow. Often we can not even see it until someone else calls it out. Try to control what you say about yourself. Talk better about yourself even if you’re struggling to believe it. It’s insane how much words affect us. You are not alone. As always, we are here if you need anyone. Here’s to better self talk and believing we are worthy of existing!!!
